Sorry Prince Philip, The Queen Has A New Buddy For Public Events

http://s5.uploads.ru/t/1Yv4g.jpg

The Ghanaian-born officer will be by the monarch's side when Prince Philip retires.

http://s2.uploads.ru/t/KqeTx.jpg
The Queen has selected Ghanaian-born Household Cavalry officer Major Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrahas as her next equerry.

The 38-year-old Afghanistan veteran, known as TA to his friends, is believed to be the royal household's first black equerry.

He will hold one of the most important positions in the royal household and assist Her Majesty at official engagements, including regional visits and audiences at Buckingham Palace, and remain closely by her side when Prince Philip retires in the Autumn.

Historically the role was created for someone to look after the cavalry's horses, but in 2017 they are expected to be a publicly visible aide at the Queen's side.

"I would have never imagined that one day I'd command the regiment which I'd fallen in love with," Twumasi-Ankrah told The Sunday Times. "From what I've seen in the UK, our cultures really do mix and if I'm not a good example of that I really don't know what is."

http://se.uploads.ru/t/iZfTy.jpg
Maj Twumasi-Ankrah moved from Ghana to the UK in 1982 with his parents, and went on to study at Queen Mary University of London and the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.

He acted as escort commander at Prince William and Kate's wedding in 2011, and commanded the Blues and Royals at the Queen's birthday parade.

Maj Twumasi-Ankrah will take over from Wing Commander Sam Fletcher later this year, and the newspaper also reports that the Queen personally picked her new aide from a group of candidates.

Prince Philip, who turned 96 in June, announced his retirement from royal duties back in May.

Buckingham Palace released the statement: "His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has decided that he will no longer carry out public engagements from the autumn of this year. In taking this decision, The Duke has the full support of the Queen.

"Prince Philip will attend previously scheduled engagements between now and August, both individually and accompanying The Queen. Thereafter, The Duke will not be accepting new invitations for visits and engagements, although he may still choose to attend certain public events from time to time."

Buckingham Palace has been accused of racial discrimination in the past, when Elizabeth Burgess, a former personal secretary to Prince Charles, alleged she had been subject to discrimination by other members of staff. "There were always black jokes and names going round because it is the royal family and it is still very protected," she told a tribunal.

Hopefully Twumasi-Ankrah's hire is a sign that things are now changing, even if slowly.

Fantastic news the new Queens equerry is Major Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah from the Household Cavalry.

Ghanaian-born Major Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah, an Afghanistan war veteran and officer from the Household Cavalry, is thought to be preparing to take over the role from Wing Commander Sam Fletcher later this year.
http://s3.uploads.ru/t/rRBGg.jpg

The Queen is thought to have picked Twumasi-Ankrah personally from a group of candidates.
The Household Cavalry's official Twitter page posted today and said: 'Major T-A is a Regimental legend & couldn't be a better fit for the Equerry job.'
The role of equerry, which involves personally assisting the Queen in her public duties, has often been associated with scandal.

Twumasi-Ankrah's royal career so far has included acting as escort commander at the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall's wedding in 2011, as well as commanding the Blues and Royals at the Queen's birthday parade - but his new role will mean he could YLYspend more time at Her Majesty's side than even her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Since Prince Philip announced that he will be stepping down from public duties this autumn, the new equerry could be the most visible man by the monarch's side.
http://s9.uploads.ru/t/NzUyu.jpg
Twumasi-Ankrah, 38,
told the Sunday Times that as a young child he used to watch the trooping of the colour with fascination.
He said: 'I would have never imagined that one day I'd command the regiment which I'd fallen in love with.

'From what I've seen in the UK, our cultures really do mix and if I'm not a good example of that I really don't know what is.'
Scandals

Equerry to George VI, Peter Townsend, caused drama in royal circles when he and Princess Margaret, the Queen's sister, became romantically involved. The Battle of Britain fighter ace, 16 years Margaret's senior and a father of two sons from a dissolved marriage, helped her write the emotional statement in which she announced that, 'mindful of the Church's teaching', she would not marry him.

The pair separated because the conservative times meant she could not wed a divorcee.
In another more recent scandal in the role of equerry, Major Simon Robinson resigned from his post in 2010 following the break up of his marriage.
He lost his coveted 'job for life' as Crown Equerry amid speculation at the time of an extra-marital affair, which he denied furiously

Queen Letizia just arrived to the UK and has already shown off a few stunning outfits, but this one definitely takes the cake. The Spanish royal took a cue from a look she wore earlier in the day while visiting the Palace of Westminster in a very similar shade of red.

Letizia wore an off-the-shoulder crystal-beaded red gown that will probably go down in history as one of her most fashionable moments ever. Letizia even stood out next to Queen Elizabeth II when the two posed for photos together. The British royal wore a long, quaint white satin gown with a matching aquamarine tiara and necklace. Letizia paired her drop-dead-gorgeous gown with a diamond bracelet, earrings, and tiara. Her husband, King Felipe IV, was close by looking very dapper in a black tuxedo.

Queen Meets Queen! Spain's Royals Get a Majestic Welcome to Kick Off Their State Visit

Queen Elizabeth, meet Queen Letizia.

Britain’s royals welcomed their Spanish counterparts in London on Wednesday at the grand kickoff to the first-ever state visit by Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia.

The morning began with Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall greeting King Felipe, 49, and Queen Letizia, 44, at their hotel. The two couples then traveled to Horse Guards Parade, the famed central London parade ground where the official ceremonial welcome was scheduled.

Next, Queen Elizabeth, 91, and Prince Philip, 96, made the formal welcome, including a royal salute from the Guard of Honor and the playing of the Spanish National Anthem.

King Felipe, accompanied by Prince Philip, inspected the Guard of Honor (in this case, the 1st Battalion Irish Guards). Afterward, Felipe and Letizia joined the Queen and Philip for a state carriage procession along The Mall to Buckingham Palace.

It will be a busy day: The Queen will also host a private lunch at Buckingham Palace, followed by a tour of the palace’s famed Picture Gallery to highlight Royal Collection items relating to Spain.

Prince Charles and Camilla will also host the royal couple at their home, Clarence House, for tea in the afternoon, and later King Felipe will deliver an address to Parliamentarians.

But the main event will take place Wednesday evening: a state banquet at Buckingham Palace, where both monarchs will deliver speeches (and the tiaras should be in full force!). Prince Harry is poised to attend the banquet as well in his first official role at a state banquet.

King Felipe VI of Spain looked in danger of putting his back out today as he greeted the Queen during the official welcome for the Spanish royals.

The king, who's a lofty 6ft 4', frequently had to stoop and bow as he greeted the Queen, who's just 5ft 3' tall, on the first day of a three-day state visit.

During the regal welcome at Horse Guards Parade in Central London, 49-year-old Felipe, who was accompanied by his wife Queen Letizia, 44, even managed to make Prince Philip, who's an impressive 6ft, look considerably shorter.

More than a foot separates the Queen and King Felipe in height, which observers on social media didn't miss

The Spanish royal couple, who landed on British soil yesterday evening, enjoyed a spectacular gun salute this morning as they were formally greeted by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh on Horse Guards Parade.

While the Spanish couple looked comfortable and relaxed in the company of their hosts, the height difference was hard to miss, with King Felipe having to bend low to greet and chat with her majesty.

Observers enjoying the pomp and ceremony of the spectacle quickly took to social media to comment on just how statuesque King Felipe looked.

@MzCaledonia commented: 'Jeez, I thought Prince Philip was quite tall, but he’s a midget compared to King Felipe.'

Meanwhile, Queen Letizia, who's just two inches taller than the British monarch at 5ft 5' enhanced her natural stature with a pair of nude heels.

Spain's royals on state visit to Britain to cement ties before Brexit

http://s5.uploads.ru/t/qxuBC.jpg

NDON (Reuters) - Spain's King Felipe and Queen Letizia begin a pomp-laden state visit to Britain on Wednesday to cement ties that have been strained by questions over the post-Brexit future of Gibraltar, a British territory on the southern tip of Spain.
The Spanish royals will stay at Buckingham Palace during a visit that was twice postponed - once because of a political crisis in Spain in 2016 and then after it clashed with an early election Prime Minister Theresa May called in June.
Agreed before Britain voted to leave the European Union in June last year, the three-day Spanish state visit, the first in 31 years, now takes place just months after a long-running row over Gibraltar, the "Rock" captured by Britain in 1704 which Spain wants back, flared up again.
The EU and Britain have also yet to agree on guarantees for EU citizens living in Britain and British expats living in other EU countries. More than 300,000 Britons live in Spain.
The Spanish royals will have a private lunch at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday with Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip, afternoon tea at the Prince of Wales' London residence Clarence House and a state banquet.
Felipe, who used a speech to the United Nations to invite Britain "to end the colonial anachronism of Gibraltar", will also address both houses of parliament on Wednesday and meet May at her Downing Street office on Thursday.
The future of Gibraltar, with a population of 30,000, is set to be a major point of contention in the Brexit talks. The EU annoyed Britain and Gibraltar in April by suggesting Spain have a right of veto over the territory's post-Brexit relationship with the bloc.

The Duchess of Cambridge opted for a dust-pink Marchesa gown
for the state banquet, 12.07.17

This dusty-pink hue is one the Duchess of Cambridge has worn before, most recently at her sister Pippa's wedding, where she wore an Alexander McQueen dress in a similar shade. But colour aside, the Duchess branched out in terms of cut and shape, opting for a noticeably more low-cut design than those she usually adopts.

Unclean and unbuckled.
Unfastened, untied.
Unfit to be seen.
I'm undignified.
Unfolded, unbuttoned.
Unbecoming, no less.
Unfortunately, I'm
Unaware I'm a mess.

Yorkshire pudding

Yorkshire pudding is a dish that originated in Yorkshire but attained wider popularity. It is made from batter and most often served with roast beef, chicken, or any meal in which there is gravy served with it, or on its own. Gravy is considered an essential accompaniment by many, and when the pudding is eaten as a starter (see below), onion gravy is usually favoured above other alternatives. It is often claimed that the purpose of the dish was to provide a cheap way to fill the diners - the Yorkshire pudding being much cheaper than the other constituents of the meal - thus stretching a lesser amount of the more expensive ingredients as the Yorkshire pudding was traditionally served first.

Yorkshire pudding is cooked by pouring batter into a preheated greased baking tin containing very hot oil and baking at very high heat until it has risen.

Traditionally, it is cooked in a large tin underneath a roasting joint of meat in order to catch the dripping fat and then cut appropriately. Yorkshire pudding may also be made in the same pan as the meat, after the meat has been cooked and moved to a serving platter, which also takes advantage of the meat's fat that is left behind. It is not uncommon to cook them in muffin tins, using 2+ tbs batter per muffin, with 1-2 tsp oil in each tin before preheating pan to very hot. Wrapped tightly, Yorkshire Puddings freeze and reconstitute very well.

Today individual round puddings (baked in bun trays or baking tins like Popovers, or in small skillets) are increasingly prevalent, and can be bought frozen.

The Yorkshire pudding is a staple of the British Sunday dinner and in some cases is eaten as a separate course prior to the main meat dish. This was the traditional method of eating the pudding and is still common in parts of Yorkshire today, having arisen in poorer times to provide a filling portion before the more expensive meat course. "Them 'at eats t'most pudding gets t'most meat" is the common saying. Because the rich gravy from the roast meat drippings was used up with the first course, the main meat and vegetable course was often served with a parsley or white sauce.

When baked with sausages (within the batter), it is known as toad in the hole. In pub cuisine, Yorkshire puddings may be offered with a multitude of fillings, with the pudding acting as a bowl. The pudding can also be eaten as a sweet dish, with jam, golden syrup, or sugar.

The red rose is the symbol of England.
It comes from the history of the country.
This symbol goes back to the War of the Roses, which was the war within the country.
In the 15th century two Houses were struggling for the English throne — the Lancastrians and the Yorkists.
Red rose was the emblem of the Lancastrians and the white rose was that of the Yorkists.
Their rival ended when King Henry VII, the Lancastrian, married Princess Elizabeth, the daughter of the Yorkist.
Since that time the red rose has become the national emblem of England.

An oak is also depicted as the national symbol of the country.

One, Two. buckle my shoe. A simple counting rhyme with several variations. Changed over time, perhaps as the pronunciation of words that rhyme changed. The song may also refer to the daily work of a lacemaker starting with getting up in the morning (buckle shoe), going to work (shut door), laying down the wooden pins (sticks) and then placing them straight on the pillow (a big fat hen) with the fabric pinned onto it. The rest of the poem may refer to other estate staff (gardeners, servants, etc.
